Hughes Electrical in Wisbech is helping two local students in their attempt to raise £8,000 to go on a trip of a lifetime.
Samuel Gowler and Ayran Hodgson, Year 10 pupils at Marshland High School, are planning to spend four weeks in Borneo where they will help local communities build better facilities, including a new classroom.
One of the fund-raising events takes place on May 7 when they take to their bikes for a 36-mile trip to Hunstanton which prompted Hughes’ Wisbech store manager, David Youngs, to get involved.
David: “I used to play football with the boys’ fathers and heard about their fund-raising efforts and decided to see if I could help. Hughes kindly donated a 32in TV for a raffle prize and as a reasonably experienced cyclist I volunteered to ride with the boys to Hunstanton and back.
“A couple of years ago I rode 100 miles a day for five days with some of my work colleagues to raise money for charity so will be able to use this experience to help Samuel and Ayran tackle the route on a busy Bank Holiday weekend.”
Anyone can call into the Hughes shop on The Market Place in Wisbech to buy raffle tickets, the draw for which will take place on the afternoon of May 7.
