The summer of champions

In Industry News On

It is difficult not to be affected by the emotions engendered by the Olympic Games which are only two days away – as I’m writing this comment. Despite all the organisational problems and security hiccups – it is an amazing event which will impact on every walk of life in this country and on people’s perception of sport and excellence in general.

It’s enough to follow the reporting on the Olympic torch relay to appreciate the amount of enthusiasm it generates in the local communities and to see how much people wish to be the part of this unique experience.

Amidst the global recession when good news is in very short supply (some days I’m reluctant to switch on the radio in the morning), the event that not only created many jobs and commercial opportunities but lifted the nation’s spirit by a few notches should be celebrated wholeheartedly by everyone.

Even the most cynical of the CE dealers cannot deny that all the sporting events of the summer 2012 had some positive impact on their business. The demand for Smart TVs and 3DTVs, radios, docks, soundbars and all the portable digital gadgetry has been fueled by people’s desire to see the ‘best of the best’ performing – in the best resolution and with perfect sound. The nation wants to be cheered up and the products in your stores are going to help them achieve this.

This can also be the best opportunity for perfect in-store theatre. Demonstrating the products while sharing the stories and personal experiences – could be the best way of ‘bonding’ with your customers… And showing to them your professional skills and commitment – like all this summer’s champions.
