Surrey white goods retailer’s Community Support Scheme wins local backing

Surrey electrical retailer RSM Domestic Appliances is generating widespread local backing for its Community Support Scheme.

The scheme, which has stood by its commitment to make a monthly donation throughout the year, prompted The Mayor of Woking Cllr Anne Murray (pictured centre) to visit one of RSM’s three outlets on April 19 to learn more about the company’s Community Support Scheme, especially in light of its donation of seven Blomberg appliances to Woking Hospice, which is her designated charity.

During her visit to the store in Knaphill, RSM managing director Steve Haydon (pictured right) gave news of RSM’s April donation through The Besom in Woking comprising 10 kettles and 10 toasters worth more than £400 to help a number of single parent families.

RSM, which operates four businesses in retail and repairs from its outlets in Knaphill, Bookham and Ashtead, launched a commitment for 2017 to make a donation every month to help people in need within the communities it serves and set up the RSM Community Support Scheme. The project has motivated other local Surrey business to support its work and give their service for free as part of the monthly donations.

Steve commented: “We hear so much about high street shops and how they are failing, or not being supported by their local community. High street shops are the life and soul of the community and I’m passionate about supporting it.

“Here at RSM we are grateful that our community does still support us. That’s why we feel it’s important for us to give something back to the communities we serve and I wanted to do something really tangible.”

The Mayor of Woking Cllr Anne Murray added: “I think this scheme is great. There are lots of challenges in the area and everyone at the moment is short of resources so it’s really nice that small local businesses are willing to step in and support local people and local charities. Hopefully it will continue.”

Steve continued: “We’ve always gone that extra mile to give a caring, quality service whether it’s a customer, client or supplier. By launching the RSM Community Support Scheme we’re taking that ethos further with something that’s tangible. It was a real honour that Her Worship the Mayor visited our Knaphill store and showed such an interest in what we’re doing through our Community Support Scheme.”

Woking Besom trustee Tony Hewat (pictured left) commented: “Woking Besom is delighted to have been chosen by RSM Domestic Appliances as a link to charities working in the local community within Woking and surrounding areas. The recent gift of 10 kettles and 10 toasters is a huge help to Besom in its aim of ‘sweeping away poverty’.”
