British cooking appliance brand Stoves has unveiled a £20,000 community projects fund as part of its new ‘Community Kitchens’ campaign.
Aimed at placing the kitchen at the heart of local communities, the biannual campaign will transform kitchen facilities in community projects across the UK, awarding deserving initiatives with thousands of pounds worth of kitchen appliances, the supplier says.
The nominated projects need to be owned, developed and led by the communities they serve and the nominations must explain why a kitchen would add value to the project.
Applications and nominations will be accepted via the Stoves website and should explain in no more than 300 words why the initiative deserves to win. Once the nominations period has closed, a shortlist will be announced. This will then be put to a public vote.
Silver and bronze winners will receive Stoves appliance packages worth between £2,000 and £3,000, with two overall winners per year winning £5,000 in prizes.
Stoves chief executive Denver Hewlett said: “Preparing and sharing food brings people together, so a kitchen is often an important part of a community space. However, they can be expensive to set up and maintain. We wanted to launch a campaign which would make the kitchen the hub of the local community and give deserving projects access to the latest appliances. Nominated projects could include initiatives such as the refit of a village hall kitchen, community centre, women’s refuge or a cookery school. Whatever it is, we want to hear about it.”
The closing date for entries to the first Community Kitchens competition is September 13 2015.
