Ivy Energy Saving launches Standby Buster with approval from the Energy Saving Trust. IVY Energy Saving has launched Standby Buster – a remotely controlled electrical socket that allows consumers to switch off multiple appliances from standby mode.
Ivy Energy Saving was set up in 2006 to bring a series of energy saving products to the UK market, the first of which is Standby Buster. This product is designed to help reduce wasted energy consumed by appliances which people leave in standby mode, as it is estimated that leaving electric appliances on standby uses about 7% of all electricity in the UK homes.
The appeal of the product is its simplicity. Standby Buster requires no installation; the socket is simply plugged into an existing power outlet. Once plugged in, it can be operated by the remote control to switch the power on and off to any connected appliances. Sockets can be grouped together into ‘zones’; and each zone can be controlled by one of the four buttons on the remote. Standby Buster uses Radio Frequency (RF) rather than infra-red to switch off products, therefore it is not impaired by objects in its way (including walls) and can be operated from a different room.
It is the only certified product on the market that draws less than 1 Watt of electricity when on standby and is rated for over 3KW. Moreover, this is the first product of this kind which carries an approval of the Energy Saving Trust. The starter kit, comprising a remotely controlled electrical socket and one remote controller, retails for approximately £15, while the value pack with three sockets and a remote control costs £30.
