REVIEWING its extensive 2008 range of consumer electronic and white good products at its recent dealer event in London, Samsung Electronics UK had a very bullish outlook on 2008.
Andy Griffiths, Samsung vice president of Consumer Electronics, commented to IER: “In 2008, there is a different set of challenges but also great opportunities for growth. The consumer feels under siege, but the CE sector continues to grow, and our first quarter has been remarkable. We expect 12% growth in the flat screen TV market this year. By the end of 2007, this market reached 30% penetration in the UK hence the opportunities here are huge. When you add the key drivers here, such as high definition and digital switchover, and the general fascination with flat panel, there is a lot of consumer activity still to be expected.
“This year we have a very wide product range, which incorporates the next stage technologies that are going to underpin value and this is bringing stability to the average price. We are also planning a big push in white goods, especially through the independent channel, as we have a new range of SBS refrigeration. We are launching the J-Series which has 4 cubic feet extra capacity that has been achieved by moving the water and ice dispenser into the door. We will also be brining the new laundry line with AirRefresh feature, and we have just unveiled the latest additions to the Silencio range”.
