PowerBall a ‘huge success’ for Electrical Industries Charity

In Industry News On

The Electrical Industries Charity has announced that PowerBall, the industry’s biggest charity fundraising event of the year, was a massive success raising £207,000 which will be used to support people in the industry when they need help with life’s many challenges.

Nearly 1,000 guests were treated to a night to remember which included a live performance from the cast of West End musical ‘Thriller’ and a whole host of fundraising activities before dancing the night away to the Earthlights Boogie Band and DJ Lyndsay Evans, the organisers said.

Special guests at the event were the Edmonds family (pictured)L-R Rob Cam and Lisa Edmonds (3), whose 14 year old son Cam has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and was in need of a special Dragon Powerchair at a cost of £24,000. Because his father Rob has been an electrician since leaving school the Electrical Industries Charity was able to help the family by providing a donation towards the cost of the chair.

But this wasn’t where the assistance ended because case worker Jill Walker contacted a number of other charities on behalf of the family and with the help of the Retail Trust, ABTA Lifeline, Florence Nightingale Aid in Sickness Trust, R L Glasspool, the Bruce Wake Charity, the Joseph Patrick Trust and Children’s Variety enough money was raised to buy the Dragon Powerchair and a special bed which would give Cam more independence.

Operations manager Jill Nadolski said: “This is a perfect example of the type of help which the Electrical Industries Charity is able to provide, because although we do offer financial assistance there are a number of other ways in which the charity is able to offer assistance.

“Cam is just one of the many people who have benefitted from the help and support of the Charity in the past year and it is events like PowerBall which allow us to continue to provide this assistance to members of our industry and their families when they need it most.

“Every year the amount of money which we raise at PowerBall continues to surpass our expectations and I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and took part in the many fundraising activities on the night – without you the help and support which we gave to Cam and his family would not be possible.”

Next year PowerBall will take place on Friday November 13 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
