Panasonic launches new corporate name at CEATEC show

In Industry News On

Panasonic has changed its corporate name from Electric Industrial Co. Ltd to Panasonic Corporation, as of 1 October, in order to unify the Panasonic brand worldwide.
The announcement was made at this year’s annual CEATEC show in Japan where Panasonic showcased a host of innovative products including the world’s first 3D full HD plasma theatre system. Including a 103in plasma screen and a Blu-ray deck, the system is watched with active shutter 3D glasses which are synchronized with the TV.
Panasonic also revealed that it will be launching major domestic appliances in the UK and Europe as of March 2009. The refrigeration and laundry products will initially be manufactured in China, although Panasonic hinted at a CEATEC press conference that there are plans to open a new factory in Europe within the next few years.
With a total of 804 exhibitors and around 210,000 visitors, the annual CEATEC show, based in Makuhari Messe in Chiba City just outside Tokyo, was themed around digital convergence, with many brands demonstrating networked TV systems.
Other highlights at the show included a Blu-ray/VHS/Hard Disk Drive combi player from Sharp and Blu-ray recorders from several manufacturers including Sony.
