John Bainbridge, managing director of Portway Domestic Appliances, is to retire on August 27.

As the fourth employee to officially join the Portway team back in the early 1990s, John was instrumental in developing the distribution centre into the present-day facility it has now become.

Starting out of a small, rented warehouse, with John’s guidance Portway now operates out of its own 100,000sq ft premises.

Portway has hosted and distributed a number of brands that have been brought into the UK marketplace during John’s time in Andover. Successes include Hisense, Fridgemaster, Ebac, Simfer, New World and Amica, a brand that John helped build from scratch in the UK and is proud to have achieved hugely successful results with established organic and sustainable growth.

With retirement, John can look forward to a new life in the New Forest with his partner Jane and his two terriers Mollie & Ruby.
