In Industry News On

The annual press conference is reporting some positive signs for continued accelerated growth. Full report on the conference and details on IFA Berlin 2014 are below.

According to a release from the event, IFA continues its positive development in 2014. This is confirmed by the demand by exhibitors, which reportedly remains at a high level. In view of this situation, some four months before the start of the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, the organizers, gfu and Messe Berlin, have expressed confidence in their ability to continue steering IFA on a course leading to increased growth. At the IFA Global Press Conference in Belek, Turkey, the largest ever held for this event, they attributed this success not only to the increasing number of product innovations but also to the way that the markets are developing.

“For all its participants, from the industry, trade, consumers and the media, IFA is the most important market place for preparing for the Christmas season, when sales are at their highest. This event will again provide the markets with an effective impetus. With a new congress and its traditionally large number of new products on display, along with innovative solutions and unique new products making their world debut, IFA 2014 is again setting new standards”, according to Hans-Joachim Kamp, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of gfu – Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik.

Referring to market developments in the consumer electronics sector, Juergen Boyny, Global Director Consumer Electronics, GfK Retail and Technology, said: “Following stagnation in 2013 there will be a return to growth on the global consumer electronics markets in 2014 (+1 %) and 2015 (+5 %). This is due to the improving world economic situation as well as to an increase in sales in the TV and PC sectors. This growth will mainly come from the Middle East and Africa and South America. The emerging markets of Asia. Europe will only make a minor contribution to growth, while the markets in North America and the developed nations of Asia will experience declines.”

Klaus Wührl, Deputy Chairman of the ZVEI Household Appliances: “In 2013 the markets for domestic appliances expanded by between one and more than five per cent, according to continent. This process will continue in 2014. The markets with the greatest expansion are those of North America (> 5%), followed by Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (between 1 and 5%). Small domestic appliances are also registering growth in almost all regions, at rates of between one and, at the maximum, more than 15 per cent.”

Dr. Christian Göke, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin: “We are already eagerly awaiting IFA 2014, and for the first time we can offer an increased area in response to the continuing high level of demand from exhibitors. With the CityCube Berlin we have not only gained 6,000 square metres of urgently needed display space, but it also creates new opportunities for meeting exhibitors’ additional requirements.”

The organizers are planning a new concept for the IFA Congress in 2014. A modern international congress entitled “IFA+ Summit” will bring together the leading minds and top executives from the fields of technology and content. In addition to addressing current issues, this event will also provide opportunities for discussions about the digital future as well as establishing new trends and encouraging new ideas. Göke continued by saying: “Just as we have pursued the long term, ongoing development of IFA, we also want to continuously expand the “IFA+ Summit”, making it a leading worldwide forum.

The IFA International Keynotes are a series of events that have won global recognition as a stage for top executive managers as well as a major highlight for professionals attending IFA, and for the international media at IFA. This year’s IFA Opening Keynote will be given by Boo-Keun Yoon, President & CEO, Samsung Electronics.

The energy and innovativeness of the consumer electronics and home appliances sectors are impressively reflected at IFA. IFA presents the trends and highlights for the coming months.

In the consumer electronics sector the focus is on ever larger screens with ultra high definition, producing astonishingly sharp images and outstanding picture quality, in some cases in 21:9 cinema format, curved TVs and smartphones, smart TVs and other smart devices offering a wealth of different capabilities and networking possibilities.

The trends in home appliances, featuring both large and small domestic appliances, can be summed up by the words ‘smart, sustainable and elegant’. An indication of the diversity offered in this sector at IFA is provided by the appliances and equipment made of high quality materials for healthy and efficient food preparation, personal care and wellness, augmented remarkable levels of energy efficiency and stylish design.

IFA is a global event for consumer electronics and home appliances. It is taking place September 5-10 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds (Expo Center City).
