IFA 2013: The Samsung Food ShowCase Refrigerator

In Product News On

Samsung Digital Appliances displayed with prominence their Food ShowCase side-by-side refrigerator at this year’s IFA event. Its design intends to provide smart separation in the refrigerator area – the ShowCase for instant access of frequently used items and InnerCase for longer storage required ingredients.

The ShowCase area, four times bigger than a conventional home-bar, allows consumers to store and instantly access food, snacks and drinks. The ShowCase opens only the exterior door of the refrigerator and is designed to make organizing and consuming food as easy as possible for every member of the household. Once opened, users can find what they want at one glance. Customizable baskets answer the various needs of a home by placing six specific food cases within the ShowCase – Cheese Case, Sauce Case, Drink Case, Snack Case, Kids Case and Multi Case.

The Kids Case, for example, is placed in the lower level of the ShowCase allowing easy access for children. Separating it into zones, it allows users to effectively organize and find food items. Additionally, the snack and kids case are detachable and can be placed directly on the table – further enhancing its usability. The ShowCase also features a Metal Cooling door that effectively keeps cooled air within the refrigerator.

The InnerCase is designed to hold larger and fresh ingredients for longer. Unlike conventional refrigerators with one cooling system for both the freezer and refrigerator, Samsung uses the Twin Cooling Plus® System to separate airflow from the refrigerator and the freezer enabling accurate temperature control thus improving cooling performance. The refrigerator area therefore keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer and the freezer reduces freezer burn, maintaining the quality of frozen food.

“We noticed a growing demand from consumers wanting quick access to items without spending too much time looking for it with the door open when it comes to refrigerators,” said Boo-Keun Yoon, President & CEO of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Electronics. “The Samsung Food ShowCase delivers the perfect solution for every member of the family, merging consumer lifestyle based research, engineering and innovative design.”

The Food ShowCase side-by-side refrigerator also features elegant metal doors which inherits Samsung’s design philosophy of ‘Timeless Design,’ which Samsung says expresses and adds a premium feel to the modern lifestyle of families.

Samsung’s digital inverter compressor optimises energy efficiency and cooling performance by automatically adjusting across five speeds of RPM in response to cooling demands. Whether due to frequent door opening, a hot plate of food or changes to the outside temperature, the compressor reacts quickly to provide cold air or slows the unit down to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
