Hughes steps in to help local preschool

Staff from a Wisbech company have got their hands dirty after answering a call for help from a local preschool.

Murrow Preschool, on Murrow Bank, was looking to create a special herb garden for its pupils to assist with their sensory experiences.

So, Hughes Electrical, with a shop on the Market Place in Wisbech, stepped in and not only provided all the necessary plants, pots and compost but also some labour too.

Tom Hunn from Hughes, who rolled up his sleeves and helped, said: “The first thing we had to do was clear an area of weeds and debris and because of all the great weather we have been having recently the ground was very, very hard and difficult to work, but we did it!

“We used a variety of herbs, all different shapes, colours, sizes and smells which the preschool will now be able to use to teach its pupils not only about how plants grow but also enable them to both touch and smell.

“As a company that has been in Wisbech for decades we see ourselves at the heart of the community and are always delighted to support local good causes when we can.”

Wendy Hopkin from the preschool added: “We would like to say a big thank you to Hughes for donating and helping to complete our herb garden project. Children will now be able to use fresh herbs while playing in their mud kitchen.

“This will support children with sensory needs as well as making a fun and exciting addition to our mud kitchen garden.

“We would also like to thank Tom Hunn who arranged the funding and support from Hughes; it really is very much appreciated from staff, committee, parents and children.”
