A man from Beccles is celebrating after winning top prize in a raffle organised by an electrical retailer to support a local charity.
Ivan Rix is now the proud owner of a 55in Smart HDR Ultra HD LED TV, worth nearly £2,000, after calling into the Hughes Electrical shop in Beccles to collect his prize.
The prize was part of the Hughes Twenty20 raffle to support charity Nelson’s Journey as it marks its 20th year. The charity, which supports young people living in Norfolk who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life, asked 20 local businesses to each raise £1,000 by 31 October 2018 – and Hughes enthusiastically took up the challenge.
Customers visiting one of its 13 stores across Norfolk & Suffolk were given the chance to buy a raffle ticket, with all proceeds going to the charity, to win over ten prizes including the TV, plus a washing machine, 4K Blu-Ray Player, robot vacuum cleaner and steam generator iron.
Hughes buying administrator Austin Redgrave commented: “Nelson’s Journey does a great job in supporting young people at the most difficult time of their lives and we know some of the families affected are our customers.
“Therefore, we were delighted to throw our weight behind this special appeal which has been so well supported and we are particularly pleased that Ivan Rix, a customer for over 20 years, has won the top prize.”
Gena Moore, from Nelson’s Journey, added: “It is wonderful that Hughes has supported us as part of this fund-raising scheme which will help us employ an additional Child Bereavement Support Worker. We are thrilled so many people entered the raffle and thank them, and Hughes staff, for getting behind our appeal.”
