Hughes Electrical has opened the doors of its brand new store in North Walsham, Norfolk, following a £500,000 investment which allows for a greater range of products to visiting customers.
This follows Hughes Electrical’s acquisition of the business and premises of Plummer Bros earlier this year. The store has been completely extended and revamped and now offers 1,700 sq feet of modern retail space, four times that of the previous Hughes store which was in the Market Place and has now re-located completely. All members of both Hughes and Plummer’s retail staff have been retained to work in this larger store.
Robert Hughes, managing director of Hughes, said of the move: “We had been looking for the opportunity to expand our operation in North Walsham into larger, freehold premises for some time.
“Plummer Bros retail business had been successfully run by Hazel Sadler for many years but she wanted to retire so we were delighted to come to an agreement to buy the shop and take on her shop staff.”
The new store, running with a staff of five, will be managed by Justin Kuttschreuter. He said: “It allows us to offer a far more comfortable shopping environment for customers, while the extra space also means we have a much greater range of products on display.
“This is particularly in IT and home entertainment which complements the already strong range of kitchen appliances offered by Plummer Bros. We also now have a warehouse dedicated to the increasingly popular ‘click & collect’ service available via our website.
“This represents a significant investment for us and we are confident it will be a real boost for North Walsham, combining the best of two long standing local companies. There has been much negative media coverage concerning the future of the UK’s retail businesses, and in particular the electrical sector with its much publicised failures.
“However we firmly believe there is room for successful companies to expand in this area as long as they continue to provide outstanding customer service and make their stores pleasant places to visit. This year we have already doubled the size of our outlets in Lowestoft and Cambridge as well as opening a brand new Hughes store in Spalding.”
