Hoover gears up for huge charity bike ride

In Industry News On

Two directors from kitchen appliance manufacturer Hoover are gearing up for a mammoth 1,200km charity cycle ride across France to raise vital funds for two worthy causes.

The dynamic duo will tackle The Veloddyssey Cycle, a 745 mile cycle route along the Atlantic coast, to fundraise for St. John’s Hospice in Wirral and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Both charities are local to Hoover’s operations in Bromborough and Dublin.

The ride is equivalent to 70,000 of the manufacturer’s new tall larder fridge and freezer laid end to end.

Steve Macdonald, marketing director of Hoover’s freestanding division and Kevin Finn, sales director of Hoover freestanding and built-in Ireland, hope to raise £2,000 (€2,400) to be split between the two charities.

Steve Macdonald commented on his relationship with his chosen charity, St. John’s Hospice. “Last year, I participated in the London to Paris cycle with the Wirral Hospice St John’s team,” he said. “It was both challenging and enjoyable, but also gave me a greater understanding of exactly what Wirral Hospice provides for patients and families in their time of need.

“After becoming so in tune with the charity and team, I decided I simply couldn’t stand by and not make a contribution again in 2017. This year, I’ll be cycling up to 100 miles a day over eight days to raise money for the Wirral Hospice, so they can continue to care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, heart, liver and kidney disease, respiratory and neurological conditions.”

Kevin Finn added: “I’m really proud to be making a donation to the team at the Crumlin Children’s Hospital, who work tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of children in Ireland.

“My funds will contribute towards a much needed piece of medical machinery that’s used for young patients undergoing spinal and neurosurgery procedures. My work is part of a bigger fundraising effort by my friends in memory of their son, so it’s an issue close to home for me.”

With the full support of the wider Hoover team, Steve and Kevin will start their unaided bike ride at Roscoff in the North West of France on June 1 2017 and will finish in Biarritz, in the South West of the country.
