Hoover Candy previews new products at its centenary celebrations

In Industry News On

The centenary celebrations of the Hoover brand in London was an opportunity for the Hoover Candy group to look back at its heritage but also to reveal the latest generation of products which will come onto the market in 2008.
The American floorcare manufacturer Hoover, founded in 1907 by James Spangler in Ohio, which established a major manufacturing base in the UK in the early 20th century, so successfully dominated the vacuum cleaner industry that the term ‘hoover’ became synonymous with a vacuum cleaner and vacuuming. One of the most memorable of Hoover’s products was the Hoover Constellation, a canister cleaner without wheels which operated as a hovercraft, floating in the air on its exhaust emissions. In 1995, Candy, the Italian white good manufacturer, specializing in laundry appliances, owned by the Fumagalli family, bought the Hoover brand from its parent company Maytag, forming the Hoover Candy group. Capitalizing on its extensive manufacturing base, the group established itself as one of the Europe’s leading brands in domestic appliances.
In an attempt to “deliver tangible benefits to consumer” the company has made a y 10 billion investment in product development over the last ten years, said Aldo Fumagalli, president of Hoover Candy group. A reflection of this is the latest line of products showcased in London Docklands. Among them was a new range of bagless vacuum cleaners, a 15-settings dishwasher with only 10 litres water consumption, a collection of ‘curvaceous’ black fridge freezers, a built-in dual-temperature oven and a cast iron hob with an ultra-modern design.
