Responding to the needs of a growing number of people who live in city apartments and increasingly smaller houses, Dyson engineers have developed two new compact vacuum cleaners, Dyson Baby (DC22) and Dyson Ball (DC24). “They have advantages of big machines but in a smaller package,” commented Tom Crawford, Dyson senior engineer, the designer of DC24.
The DC24 Dyson Ball is a slim, lightweight upright (5.4kg) that sits on a ball for ease of manoeuvrability. Its motor is positioned inside the ball, making it lighter in hand and easier to steer. The DC24 compresses by one-third of its height when it’s not in use so it’s easy to store. Its motorised brush-bar captures even ground-in dirt and pet hair.
The DC22 Dyson Baby is a compact cylinder, one-third smaller than other Dyson cylinders. Its telescopic wand folds down and its hose wraps around its body for tidy storage. Dyson Baby uses the latest Dyson cyclone technology to capture the finest dust. Like all Dyson machines, it doesn’t rely on bags but uses Root Cyclone technology that spins dirt from the airflow, so it doesn’t lose suction.
Both machines, equipped with Hepa filters, are approved by the British Allergy Foundation. They come with a five-year guarantee and will be available from March ’08 onwards.
