CiH Euronics retailers and suppliers gathered at the Dorchester Hotel in London for the buying group’s annual Christmas lunch.
The group took the opportunity to reflect on a turbulent year, which has nonetheless seen turnover growth. CiH chairman Robin Millwood commented: “In 2016 we are currently tracking at 6% above last year’s turnover, and with fewer members this is some achievement, but even more pleasing is that within this figure Agency sales are ahead by over 7%. Agency sales now account for over 50% of our total business which goes to show that given the correct models, brands and availability what we can do. We could do even better if the market place had price stability and not all of the major retailers trying to be the cheapest.”
It was also announced that the decision has been taken to postpone the CiH showcase for 2017 for a year. “As a company we really appreciate the support we have received for Showcase every year,” Robin explained. “With the uncertainty in the market along with the recent raft of price rises (with more to come) and the obvious increase in costs for everyone, the Board of Directors has decided to postpone Showcase 2017 for one year. We realised that all suppliers would be looking at budgets and where some trimming could be had so we have taken this decision to help you all for one year but we will be back in 2018 with a bigger and better show.”
Euronics also announced two awards to suppliers this year.
The title of the Supporter of the Independent was awarded to Hoover.
Robin commented: “Having thought long and hard this year there are quite a few suppliers that have gone that extra mile to support us and it is not always the largest supplier that ticks all of the boxes.
“There are some that have been in the doldrums for a few years and have taken some time to get back to where they belong. This particular supplier is a well-established name that not long ago was near the bottom of our major suppliers in turnover but after careful and hard work they have strived to get back up the ladder and are now showing a year to date increase with us of 140%.”
The Euronics Supplier of the Year was awarded to Blomberg.
“Six years ago this supplier made with us a very brave decision to launch in the UK with a handful of models which were totally exclusive to Euronics, and to be honest it did take a fair time to get the Agents behind the brand and it was a slow burn for the first few years,” Robin explained.
“However in the last 18 months we have gone from strength to strength and with the launch of many new products in April highlighting product benefits and a major key driver where the built in products come with a five year warranty, the turnover for this year is up by 46%.This has all been done with margins that some suppliers could only dream about.”
Beko plc channel manager for independents Steve Naylor said: “We’re delighted to have won this much-coveted award and to have been recognised for our contribution towards the group’s success for 2016. Euronics Agents remain at the heart of everything we do at Blomberg, our entire range of freestanding appliances is exclusive to them and we work hard to ensure we respond to their feedback on what their customers are looking for. We look forward to another successful year of partnership ahead.”
