The Energy Saving Trust has unveiled its new independent advice website, www.ToptenUK.org, which aims to provide consumers with an impartial list of the country’s most efficient household appliances.
Taking over the website, the Energy Saving Trust hopes the guide will be invaluable to consumers looking to cut their energy bills while upgrading appliances in the living room, kitchen or lighting.
As well as providing an at-a-glance guide to the best rated products for different areas of the home, detailed information can be found on energy consumption figures, operational noise and cost.
Energy Saving Trust head of products Dr Fanoula Ziouzia said: “ToptenUK.org has been designed for ease; displaying all the relevant information you need in a friendly, easy to digest format.
“This wouldn’t be useful if it wasn’t current though, so we make sure the lists are updated every six months to ensure what you’re seeing is the most up to date information. That includes annual running cost, upfront purchase cost, dimensions and special functionality, where available.”
The website covers appliances for almost every area of the house, including televisions, refrigeration, ovens, kitchen hoods and lighting. Dishwashers, washing machines, tumble-dryers and vacuum cleaners are also covered by the website.
Dr Ziouzia said: “We do find that energy efficiency is increasingly recognised by consumers as an important factor to their purchasing decisions – and manufacturers are waking up to this too. Advances in technology mean televisions are less power hungry than ever, many washing machines are now rated in the most efficient A+++ bracket, and even efficient tumble driers are more affordable.
“Finding this information on retailers’ websites isn’t always easy, but ToptenUK.org takes the guesswork out of finding the best products for your budget.”
