Datateam Media and Communications Group Limited (Datateam) announces the acquisition of media assets from Faversham House Limited. The publications and events will form part of Datateam’s Building Services and Home and Lifestyle divisions. The acquisition includes:
DIY Week
Hardware & Garden Review
Housewares Magazine
Builders Merchants Journal
ACR News
Heating & Ventilation Review
The ACR Show
There is a fantastic synergy between Housewares and IER. In line with this acquisition and the opportunity it offers for the some of the magazines to work better together strengthening the already well known and highly respected brands. Datateam has re branded IER with a new look and new title:
IER will now therefore be known as Innovative Electrical Retailing
IER (formerly Independent Electrical Retailer), prides itself on being the voice of the independent retailer and celebrates its 25th anniversary issue at the end of this year. We are looking forward to the future and will continue to have the strongest monthly trade presence for manufacturers promote their products, technology and sales opportunities directly to the retailer.
The last three years have been extremely hard for the retailing sector and especially for the independents. There has been a big reduction in the number of independent retailers left in the UK and as such the magazine has a very small market with budgets restricted from the manufacturers.
The name change and rebrand reflects the changes required to move forward in this ever changing and fast paced industry.
Innovation is key for business to keep ahead in tough times and the way retailers sell their products is constantly changing.
The change in the title allows us to look at other retailing opportunities to both manufacturers and retailers and allow us to continue to serve the independents, with a dedicated ‘Independent Focus’ in every issue which will still see all the relevant news articles and features that our readers have always enjoyed. We are certainly not changing our commitment to the independents but are evolving with retailing opportunities as a whole.
IER will still be publishing detailed features covering both consumer electronics and white goods; it will also be able to focus in more detail, small domestic appliances, joining forces with Housewares, who are already covering these products in depth. We will continue to promote sales training through the sales training plus features and the annual Sales Training Guide and the IER Business Book.
“This is an exciting new era for IER magazine and I look forward to seeing the first issue of the relaunched publication. The team have full support from Samsung as we continue to work with the Independent Retailers whilst looking at new and innovative retailing opportunities for our products”

“Our industry as a whole has always been, and will continue to be, an ever-changing environment where the key to success is being innovative at all levels. So the news of the innovative and refreshing relaunch of our stalwart trade magazine IER is most welcome. Well done Datateam!”
