Speaking at the CIH 2008 Suppliers Luncheon in London, Robin Millwood, CIH chairman, compared the current trading conditions to that of “the perfect storm”: “It is no understatement that 2008 has been a very difficult year and I have never known so many outside influences affecting our business over which we have no control of.” However, he also confirmed that not all news were bad: “We have already been advised by most companies well in advance of large price rises in the New Year and I hope that this will be across all channels so that the playing field is even.”
He also urged: “We need to work together and I realise that we may have had our ups and downs during 2008 but maybe we need to lay new foundations and I would urge you to all to start afresh for 2009.”
Stuart Cook, chief executive of the Euronics group presented the Annual Euronics Trophies.
The Business Partner award went to Resolution Interiors which has been implementing the CIH retail strategy over the past 12 months, with great success.
The Brown Goods Supplier of the Year accolade was awarded to Samsung Electronics which has managed a double digit turnover increase with CIH and is close to becoming the largest supplier to the group.
White Goods Supplier of the Year went to Glen Dimplex Home Appliance Group which increased turnover for the group, supporting all of its criteria, re-inventing its refrigeration range and improving its cooker range, the majority of which is still made in the UK.
