Home-tek has acquired the rights to manufacture and distribute the Safe-T-Light, a self-contained nightlight and torch, devised by British inventor Chris Haines. The inspiration for it came about when Chris’ mother nearly fell down stairs one night when the electricity failed.
The Safe-T-Light, which plugs into a 13A socket, has a rechargeable LED torch that switches on automatically if the electricity fails, providing the ambient light level is below the preset level. During a power cut the light automatically switches to its internal rechargeable battery and provides emergency lighting for approximately 20 hours. The light can be removed to use as an emergency torch.
On an everyday basis, the light can be used as a child’s nightlight or as non-intrusive lighting in hallways and on staircases. It uses less than 3W and runs for three days on a penny’s worth of electricity.
The Safe-T-Light remains plugged into a socket but it does not stop people from using the outlet for any electrical appliances because the unit has a built-in-socket
