Berlin Photo Week to make comeback this summer

The third edition of Berlin Photo Week will kick off on Thursday, August 26.

The new venue for the event is Haubentaucher, an exciting urban venue. Organisers said that, as part of the famous R.A.W. Gelände, which attracts over 30,000 visitors a day in the summer with its galleries, clubs, and restaurants, it is the ideal place to bring together the leading manufacturers in the imaging industry with Germany’s creative scene.

In addition to the decentralised location, exhibition sites and art venues such a Grisebach and Chaussee 36 will be included as satellite locations.

Jens Heithecker, executive vice president of the Messe Berlin Group, said: “We are happy to launch Berlin Photo Week, which will be the very first event on this range of topics since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“Berlin Photo Week’s main focus isn’t just the new cameras; we’re more about the core of photography and the fun of making pictures. In a typical year, it’s a great complement to IFA, which is of course much more focused on technology, products, and retailers. We are looking forward to the upcoming experience and also to next year, when we will be able to extend this bridge even further as part of IFA 2022.”

Product highlights at Berlin Photo Week 2021

Sony
With the APS-C camera ZV-E10, Sony recently introduced the first vlog system camera of the Alpha series. The Exmor CMOS APS-C sensor with 24.2 megapixels (effective) and the BIONZ X image processor are the heart of the camera.

They provide excellent high-sensitivity images, detailed rendering of textures, and beautiful, natural-looking bokeh. A lightweight design and various features tailored specifically for vlogging make the ZV-E10 the ideal companion for creating video content.

Leica
Leica Camera will present the new SL2-S model, which shines with its performance for both image and video capture. The camera features a 24-megapixel CMOS BSI sensor and can shoot series of images at up to 25 frames per second at full resolution. Other highlights include 4K movie recording, tethered shooting with Capture One 21, and a limited-time Adobe Creative Cloud photo license.

Panasonic
The LUMIX S5 with the 20-60 lens plus 70-300 telephoto zoom offers users a compact mirrorless full-frame system that covers a wide range of focal lengths in this combination. Characteristic for the compact system camera is the full-frame sensor, dual image stabilisation, OLED viewfinder as well as the freely movable display. 4K videos can be created with up to 60p and 10 bit. Due to high energy efficiency, the camera has a long battery life.

Tamron
Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron will introduce a special telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount mirrorless system cameras. The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (model A057) features an integrated VC image stabiliser and fast VXD autofocus. This enables particularly sharp and detailed image captures. Added to this is the particularly handy design.

Sigma
The all-new SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports is a powerful ultra-telephoto zoom and the first lens in the Sports lineup designed specifically for mirrorless systems. It offers outstanding imaging performance, functionality and build quality, as required for demanding photography with extreme telephoto focal lengths. The lens exhibits attractive bokeh throughout the focal length range.

Berlin Photo Week will take place at Haubentaucher from August 27–29, 2021.
