AMDEA has announced that its long serving technical manager Stuart MacConnacher has been awarded the BSI’s prestigious International Standards Maker Award for his outstanding contribution to work on safety standards in particular.
Stuart has represented the UK on many international and European committees for 25 years and his invaluable contribution was recognised at a ceremony on Friday November 27 2015.
Given that the UK collates more fire accident statistics than other countries, he has proved to be a remarkably successful ambassador for this country, AMDEA says. He has pushed for changes to standards in international committees including the IEC (The International Electrotechnical Commission) and CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization). AMDEA adds that Stuart has been influential in bringing about changes to standards in household appliances that safeguard children and vulnerable people, including improving tumble dryer safety to prevent child entrapment and introducing a warning in the standard for safety of dishwashers on how to load knives safely. He has also worked on reducing surface temperature limits on appliances.
Of the five distinguished figures who were awarded the 2015 BSI International Standards Maker, he was noted for his exceptional expert knowledge and technical understanding.
AMDEA chief executive Douglas Herbison said of the achievement: “The appliance industry echoes the BSI’s admiration for Stuart MacConnacher’s utter commitment to improving standards. His tireless work helps to ensure that standards keep up with the fast pace of our industry’s technological advances as well as changes to legislation. This BSI award celebrates his significant achievements and represents the appliance industry’s continual improvement of standards in order to safeguard consumers.”
