In Industry News On

TheAllSeen Alliance, a cross-industry collaboration to advance the Internet of Everything through an open source software project, has announced thatArçelik has joined as a premier member.

Arçelik Group has 26,000 employees worldwide and 14 production facilities throughout the world located in Turkey, Romania, Russia, China and South Africa. The company has also recently broken ground on its Thailand Refrigerator plant. The Arçelik Group provides products and services in 130 countries with sales and marketing offices located in 27 countries and under 10 different brands. Two of the most well-known consumer electronics and home appliance brands, Grundig and Beko, will be at the forefront of the work Arçelik does within the AllSeen Alliance, the company says.

Arçelik joins 12 premier members, namely Canon, Electrolux, Haier, LG, Microsoft, Panasonic, Philips, Qeo (a Technicolor company), Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc., Sharp, Silicon Image (a Lattice Semiconductor company) and Sony, and more than 170 community and sponsored members in the Alliance.

By joining the AllSeen Alliance, Arçelik will help advance the AllJoyn open source project as the common software framework used by devices, services and apps within the Internet of Everything ecosystem, the Alliance says. Arçelik’s diversified group of portfolio brands will make it an ideal member within the AllSeen Alliance as company leaders work on the interoperability challenges that often impede movement in cross platform standards, the group adds.

Arçelik R&D director Cem Kural commented: “Arçelik’s strong background in home appliance innovation will be a significant point of contribution to the Internet of Everything. Addressing what consumers expect and want from their connected consumer devices, we have been working on connected appliances and we are presenting them at IFA. However, interoperability is one of the major issues for these devices, and we are assured that becoming a premier member of AllSeen Alliance Ecosystem working on open software platform with hardware and software innovators will be an important accelerator for Arçelik connected devices business.

“We look forward to working with the other members of the AllSeen Alliance to advance connectivity based on AllJoyn and realize the vision of a truly connected world.”

AllSeen Alliance IoT senior director Philip DesAutels added: “With the addition of Arçelik, the AllSeen Alliance gains a tremendously successful and globally influential consumer electronics and appliance company. One of the more exciting aspects of IoT is the growth and excitement we see on a global scale. Arçelik’s endorsement and support will expand the reach of the AllJoyn-enabled IoT ecosystem, bringing real value and impact to consumers worldwide.”
